How to use EM for Cleaning & Household

EM EM - an acronym for Effective Micro-organisms. A term coined by
Prof Dr. Teruo Higa who discovered EM and developed the EM technology.

EM-1 (also, EM1, EM•1)
EM-1 is a brownish liquid containing a mixture of micro-organisms. EM-1 is produced through a fermentation process and consists of water, molasses, lactic acid bacteria, yeast, and phototrophic bacteria. The specific combination of micro-organisms is the key to its effectiveness. The micro-organisms are all natural, non-pathogenic, non-toxic, and classified as Bio safety Level 1 (are known NOT to cause diseases in healthy human adults).
EM-1 is the core product with which all other EM products and EM materials are produced.

Activated EM (also, AEM, A-EM, EMA, EM-A, AEM-1)
Activated EM (or Activated EM-1) is made by mixing EM-1 with molasses and water and fermenting for about 3 to 5 days in a tightly closed container (preferably plastic so it can expand) until the pH drops below 4.0. Activated EM is mainly for economic reasons. For example, a litre of EM-1 can be made into 20 litres of Activated EM (at 1:1:20 ratio). The activated EM-1 can be used in the same way as the EM-1, but should be used within 30 days after the pH drops below 4.0.

EM is a multi use product for the home and garden and is safe to use. It doesn’t matter if you spray yourself or spill EM on your skin, in fact it is likely to benefit you rather than harm you unlike most other gardening and cleaning products on the market.

EM products can replace many of your household cleaners. From washing windows to
adding it to the laundry, EM will help to prevent the growth of unwanted mould and bacteria. EM will eliminate odour on contact and leaves no scent behind so there are no annoying unnatural fragrances. As with restaurant applications, EM-1/ EM-A can be added to water for cleaning the floors, cabinets, and counters in your kitchens and bathrooms. It is safe for all surfaces.

A general cleaner dilution rate is 1 part EM-1/ EM-A to 20 parts water. Mix an equal amount of vinegar and you have a great window cleaner!

Use EM-1 / EM-A in bath and for washing, for living space, cupboards, beds, and cars, in the kitchen and for kitchenware, in the household for cleaning

** Effective Micro-organisms do not kill mould! EM-1/EM-A is not a fungicide and the point of application is to deal with bio remediation of the toxins produced by the moulds, called myco-toxins. EM helps to prevent building up more mould.

·        Regular applications of EM to your soil will improve biological activity and soil quality
·         Apply EM regularly to growing plants to improve growth and health
·         Apply FPE and EM5 for disease and pest management
·         Soak seeds in dilute EM solution for better germination and seedling growth
·         Apply EM to compost for higher quality compost, reduce smells and flies as well.
·         Apply EM to pet living areas and bedding, and to the pets themselves, great for dogs and
cats and for chicken coops and pig pens, any odour will disappear.
·        EM can be prepared as a cleaner, hungry enzymes in EM will consume dirt.
·        EM can be used to clean and prevent drains smelling.
·        EM can be used to reactivate your septic tank or bio system, and used regularly will ensure efficient operation of your home septic system with reduced cleaning and servicing required.
