Wastefest
Wastefest event was created originally as a fun way to create awareness of reusing and recycling and while that message remains, the event has moved to a nationally recognised art form.
Since the inaugural event in a country hall over 10 years ago the event has grown in size and attracts capacity audiences that come from all around the South Island to be entertained by the glittering array of garments.
The Ashburton event is recognised as a top event in its class and attracts high class entrants from all over the South Island with the quality and creativity of the garments increasing year by year.
The Winter Waste Fest incorporating the Clean Green Business Awards and a wide range of exciting activities and workshops plus Wastebusters Wearable Art Awards usually runs in August.
Entry categories usually are, the popular under 14 section, the revamp section that features remodeled op shop or second hand clothes, the open section that has no boundries and myths and legends, that reflects mythological or legendry characters. With a wide range of classes the imagination can run wild.
